Internationally Renowned Aboriginal Artist, Designer & Elder

B.B. Kunda was born in 1941 and grew up in many foster homes, is a survivor of the stolen generation and although he knows where his ancestors now come from. This was however a very long journey for him.  Kunda eventually discovered his Aboriginal mothers identity, but not until after she had passed away. He also discovered that she had lived less than a mile from him and that he had worked only two doors from her. He did however discover a brother and sister he also never knew he had and that they also lived just down the road from him, with whom he has reconciled with.
During the early 1900's the Australian government began the assimilation of Aboriginal full caste and half-caste children in white society. these children where either adopted, fostered or placed into institutions. The object of assimilation was the genocide of the Aboriginal race. although his exercise failed, many thousands of Indigenous adult people of today, separated from the their families are still trying to find their way home. Kunda is one of those assimilated; he is although one of the lucky ones to find his family, many others are still searching.

BB Kunda's paintings have graced the walls of many international and national exhibitions, museums and art awards, with some permanently documented through the media and television. BB Kunda is a spiritual artist, having received many accolades for his canvas pieces of dancers and fire starters. The magic and awe that BB Kunda brings to his artworks are a remembrance of the spirit, life and uniqueness of the Dreaming of Aboriginal people and the land.
BB Kunda is perhaps one of the most spiritual artists of this century. His paintings are awe inspiring. His individual and natural style is unlike anything else currently in exhibition. The mixing of tradition and contemporary styles has given BB Kunda a uniqueness amongst his peers. His paintings are a glimpse into the complex, mystical and sacred world of ancient Dreamtime accompanied by a celebration of tribal life. he is a diverse artist with the ability to paint non-Indigenous styles such as his early settlement paintings of Ned Kelly, which have been in high demand.


BB Kunda is a survivor of assimilation and has proven that no matter what; you never give up the journey of finding yourself and of where you come from. He is an inspiration to other Aboriginal people in search of their ancestry.
